About the role

We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to build and own reliable backend services for our mobile health and connected-device platform. This is primarily a backend engineering role with strong Python and FastAPI experience. The person should also be comfortable managing deployments, production logs, monitoring, and cloud operations across Google Cloud Platform and AWS when required.

The Senior Backend Engineer will design, deliver, and maintain scalable services that support device integrations, and internal operational tools. The role includes API design, database and background-processing work, deployment ownership, incident investigation, and ongoing reliability improvements.

• Design, build, and maintain secure and scalable backend APIs and services.
• Design database schemas, data-processing workflows, background jobs, and reliable asynchronous processing.
• Own backend deployments, configuration, environments, release processes, and rollback readiness.
• Maintain and improve Google Cloud Platform and Firebase services, including authentication, cloud functions, storage, databases, and server-side integrations.
• Support AWS services when required for infrastructure, deployment, monitoring, or platform growth.
• Implement structured logging, monitoring, alerting, and production diagnostics for API, device, firmware, and integration failures.
• Investigate production issues across services, databases, cloud infrastructure, mobile-device integrations, and network flows.
• Improve security, privacy, performance, scalability, and data reliability across backend systems.
• Work closely with mobile, firmware, QA, product, and design teams to deliver reliable end-to-end features.

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience in production systems.
• Strong production experience with Python and FastAPI for backend API and service development.
• Strong Node.js experience is a plus. Experience with both Python and Node.js is preferred.
• Strong API development experience using REST and GraphQL.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Experience with NoSQL data stores, ideally Firebase Firestore or similar services.
• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform and Firebase.
• Experience deploying and operating production services on GCP or AWS.
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, environment configuration, and secrets management.
• Experience with application logging, monitoring, alerting, error tracking, and incident investigation.
• Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, API security, and data privacy principles.

• Experience in health, wellness, IoT, Bluetooth, wearable, or device-data products.
• Experience designing FastAPI services with asynchronous processing, background jobs, validation, and API documentation.
• Experience with AWS services such as ECS, Lambda, RDS, CloudWatch, S3, API Gateway, or equivalent services.
• Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform.
• Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms.
• Experience with time-series data, analytics pipelines, or background data processing.
• Experience with observability tools such as Sentry, Datadog, Grafana, New Relic, Mixpanel, or CleverTap.

• Backend features are delivered with clear APIs, reliable data handling, monitoring, and deployment ownership.
• Production issues can be identified quickly through useful logs, metrics, alerts, and traceable error context.
• The team can ship backend changes safely through repeatable CI/CD processes and rollback plans.
• Mobile and firmware teams receive dependable backend support for device, account, readings, sync, and diagnostic flows.
• The backend architecture remains secure and maintainable as the product and user base grow.
